A Thief Called Procrastination…

by Tonya on February 18, 2009

Finally, I have posted my first blog entry after months of procrastination.

I can’t really explain why it took me so long to get started. I put it off for the past six months because something else always seemed more important. The demands of everyday life can often bog you down and keep you from doing things that you really desire in your heart to do. And while meaning well or meaning to do something is good, it only counts if you follow through with it. Imagine telling your creditor that you meant to pay them, but you got too busy with the cares of life. That probably wouldn’t go over too well.

Procrastination is a thief that can rob you of your dreams and destiny. The project that you put off could have been very successful, but because you waited until the last minute, you were not able to do your best work. A person may have needed to hear an encouraging word from you, but because you procrastinated in calling them, they went through another depressing day. When we procrastinate, we make the assumption that we are going to have time later to accomplish what we desire in our hearts to do. But what if we don’t get that time later on?

I urge you to not put off until tomorrow what you can do on today. Start that project that you wanted to get going. Call that friend or relative that you have been meaning to call but kept putting it off. If you have been meaning to spend more time with God, or read your bible, start today. Take time to enjoy and cherish today because tomorrow is not promised.

What is procrastination robbing you of?

I told myself that I would run a Marathon by the time I was 25. Then I said when I was going to run it when I was 30. Now I am 31 and I am finally training for my first Marathon in April. I plan to run another marathon in September. I feel great because I am finally accomplishiing something.
I love the title procrastination is a thief and it will steal your dreams if you let it. After reading your article I have made up my mind that I am not going to procrastinate I am going to going to accomplish everything I put my mind to.

Great insight in your post! It's a tremendous truth that we all should consider each day. There are so many things to distract us from our mission – we definitely shouldn't allow our self-imposed procrastination to steal from us!! Let's don't follow in the footsteps of Scarlet O'Hara who said, "Tomorrow is another day." The Bible says "hope deferred makes the heart sick." I'm encouraged to step up & move on. I AM going to finish my book this year.

Does this now mean that I won’t hear you telling me that you’ve been meaning to call me? (joking) I think the blog is great and you’re off to a wonderful start. – Heart, Sanya

Wonderful write up Tonya! I look forward to reading more from you. You are right, procrastination is a serious strong hold that can prevent our spiritual and natural growth. Thanks for the motivation!

Much Love
Bridgett

This is my first visit to your blog and I think it’s very interesting. I’m a Christian myself and I like to connect with other moms around the world. Thanks for posting!
