April 15th – A Day to Celebrate

by Tonya on April 15, 2009

Today is a day that many people associate with taxes. Whenever someone says taxes, everyone groans.

But I don’t think of April 15th as tax day anymore. My wonderful son was born on this very day, two years ago. I started with contractions and was put on bed rest on Friday the 13th. He was born on a beautiful Sunday, the day after a tornado warning.

My life has been radically changed since he has come into my life. I have someone else that ranks extremely high on my priority list, many times above my wants, needs, and desires. As I reflect on the past two years with him, it has been an absolute joy. I’m so glad he’s here. I am a better person because of him.

The first two months with him was rough. He had a case of colic AND reflux, so I was about to pull out all my hair! I constantly meditated on the below scripture:

Psalm 127:3 NLT – Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.

Every night, while I was trying to console my colicky baby, I would recite that scripture, but I would make it personal:

My son is a gift and reward from the Lord.

That scripture really helped me. My sister Sanya came and stayed with me for a while during that time. We figured out which bottles worked best for him and it was smooth sailing after that.

Now, my biggest worry with him is making sure he doesn’t kick down the other safety rail!

Wonderful twos, here we come!

*Side note: I’m not saying terrible twos. I believe that our words have power and I’m speaking good behavior over my son!

I LOVE to make scriptures personal! We do that, too.

And I don’t confess terrible twos over my kids either. I say that great is the peace of my children.

And it has become true in their lives.

As long as there’s nachos.

*Crosses arms in a huff*

No, seriously, I, too believe that words have creative power. And I’m working on that DAILY!

PS – He’s a handsome little guy, isn’t he?

*Brandishes baseball bat* “STAND BACK, groupies. The Lord has already chosen his wife for him!”

Happy Birthday to your lil’ cutie pie!! He is a handsome lil’ fella that’s for sure :o )

My son is three and yes, I say he’s in his terrible threes because that’s a given fact :| but I shall attempt this even though the Lord commanded us to NOT lie ;)

“My son is in his wonderful threes”

(clears throat)

(hears something crash on the floor)
