Freedom Is Not Free

by Tonya on May 25, 2009

Some people honestly don’t know the true reason for celebrating Memorial Day.  They see it as the beginning of summer and the official grand opening of beaches all around the nation.  They see it as the perfect time to fire up the grill and have friends over for cookouts.

But Memorial Day is so much more than that.  Memorial Day is a day that we recognize military veterans for the price that they paid to keep us free.  Some veterans paid the ultimate price with their lives.   Some paid the price of mental scars and/or physical disabilities.

Regardless of your views on war, the fact remains that freedom is not free, despite the word “free” being included in the spelling.  Freedom comes with a cost and we should honor and appreciate those that pay the price for our freedom.

Do you know someone that is currently deployed?  If so, send them a care package.  Do you know someone that is serving in the military?  If so, thank them for their service.

Below is a touching clip that reminds us of the need to support our troops and remember those that paid for our freedom with their lives.
