CVS vs. Walgreens Deals

by Tonya on July 20, 2009

Welcome to Money Saving Monday!

This Sunday’s coupons were disappointing. I didn’t cut out too many this week. Below are the deals worthy of mentioning this week. A majority of them are related to school supplies:

CVS

Paper Mate Pens (10 count) = $.99

Extra Bucks back = $.99

Free after Extra Bucks – Limit Two

CVS Filler paper 150 sheets = $2.00

Extra Bucks back = $2.00 (offer ends Tuesday)

Free after Extra Bucks – Limit Two

CVS or Caliber pencils = $1.99

Extra Bucks back = $1.99 (offer ends Tuesday)

Free after Extra Bucks – Limit Two

Duracell Batteries = $2.99

Extra Bucks back = $1.00

Coupon from last week’s paper = $0.75

Total Price = $1.24 after Extra Bucks

Walgreens

Pilot G2 Pens (I love these pens. 2 in a pack) = $1.00

Register Rewards (same as extra bucks) = $1.00

Free after Register Rewards - Limit One

Tylenol (40 or 50 count) =$4.99

Register Rewards = $3.00

Price after Register Rewards = $1.99 – Limit One

I think there were coupons in last week’s paper for this…I didn’t clip them though.

Papermate Pens (10 count, same as CVS) = $0.19

Limit six

Comparing CVS’s deal on pens versus Walgreens’ deal

CVS - 10 pens for $0.99 ($0.99 Extra buck makes it “free”)

Walgreens – 60 pens for $1.14

You decide what works best for you, based upon your need.

Tips of the week:

Be careful about Buy One Get One offers. Sometimes, retailers will hike up the prices of the item, which takes away most of your savings.

Feel free to do shelf checks every once in a while when you visit different stores. That way, you can have an idea of what the average cost of an item is. This helps you to know if you are TRULY getting a deal.

Hey!

Do you ever shop at the commissary? If so, what do you do about savings and coupons there?

I only shop at the commissary once or twice a month. Since they do not have sales papers, it's hard to know what sales they are offering unless you are already there.

The commissary will take manufacturer and printed coupons. You can also combine your coupons with their store coupons that they offer.

Wow….it's pretty neat to see how you have a good grip on these savings! I used to work for Walgreens..was there for 2 1/2 yrs. Honestly…that's my pharmacy of choice…could be cause I worked there and feel more comfortable or could be cause I pretty much know the cosmetics tech by now and she offers great customer service but I love to save…who doesn't..so I will take your advice and keep my eyes open:D

You're right about the buy one get one free deal – sometimes the priced is jacked up so high that you're not saving at all.
