My Earliest Memory of Christmas

by Tonya on December 15, 2009

I have several wonderful memories of Christmas.  Here is my earliest memory of Christmas.

So there I was, five years old on Christmas day.  And I was stuck in my room playing by myself in isolation while my Grandma, Mom, Aunts, Uncles, brother, and cousins were at my Grandma’s house having a grand ole time.
Why was I left at home with my Dad in isolation?
Because I had Chickenpox!

Yes, I had chickenpox during the Christmas holidays.  It was not cool.  I do remember my mom bringing back gifts that I was supposed to receive in person.
Chickenpox was no fun.  I itched like crazy.  Calamine lotion was my bff.
Why didn’t they have the chickenpox vaccine back then?

At least I got it over with at a young age.  I know some people that got it in their teenage years.

And that DEFINITELY is not cool.

Have you ever been sick during the holidays?

Wow, you have a good memory!

I always remember our Christmases being characterized by lots of toys! Mountains of toys! It was always so much fun! That one day of the year when we were showered with gifts galore!

My hubby and I want to create similar memories for our kids because it's such a wonderful feeling, and such treasured memories to look back on!

Wow, what a Christmas memory. Love the photo, too funny. I had the adult version of the chicken pox a few years ago. Shingles. What a miserable thing that was. Better to have it as a child, no? Enjoying your blog site very much. Looks like you have a lot to celebrate this year. I'd love it if you visit my blog too, and would be flattered to have you as a follower. Happy Holidays, Keri (aka Sam) http://www.samwich365.com

I love your picture and your Christmas memory. I usually get sick on the 4th of July. I don't know why.

Being sick during the holidays is no fun. My daughter and I have both had the stomach flu for Christmas a time or two. Growing up I remember having been sick for at least 2 Christmas holidays.
No Fun at all!

Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas season

@Coach Krystal – yeah, I remember things pretty well. :-)

@Kathryn – you aren't missing anything. Good thing you got the shot!

@Sam – That photo was funny! I got it from photobucket. Someone did a great photoshop job!

@JD – The 4th of July huh? Hmm…hopefully you won't get sick this year!

@Amber – there are few things worse than the stomach flu! I've had it a time or two myself and it was no party.

Actually yes, on Christmas too…lol. I know your pain. Although I think we were at my Grandparent's house when it happened and everyone was there with me. I was 7. I didn't even get to miss school!
