The New Year is almost here!
A lot has happened in 2009. Many celebrities passed away. The first minority President of the United States took office. The Miracle on the Hudson took place.
Personally, 2009 was a year of change, growth, and new beginnings for me. I made the decision to stay-at-home with my son and pursue a writing career. I became active with cancer advocacy organizations. I had my first publication, with two more coming out soon. I learned some valuable lessons while my husband was deployed.
I’m excited to see what the year 2010 will bring!
Most people have some type of New Year’s tradition or ritual. I like to make New Year’s resolutions. Getting in shape is on my list every year…maybe I’ll be successful this time. I’ll be taking some time this weekend to really think on what I want to accomplish for 2010.
Some people like to eat certain things on New Year’s Day, like black-eyed peas, cabbage, collards, and hog jowls for good luck.
I’ve also heard of people not washing clothes on New Year’s Day because you will “wash someone out of your life.”
Watch Night service is also a common tradition for people. For those of you that don’t know, Watch Night Service is held at a church on New Year’s Eve and you pray and sing the New Year in. The preacher usually preaches a message of encouragement.
What New Year’s Traditions do you have?

For us we have no tradition, yet. For the last 8 yrs my husband has had to work New Years eve, this will be his first one off,we plan to attend our city's party which is held on the next block from our home and be together with our kids to ring in the New Year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
I don't seem to have many traditions as it seems every year is different. This year we are going to a friends for games
Sickness in our home the last two years on New years. No real tradition. I remember my parents making us black-eyed peas and spinach when I was growing up. I also heard of someone today burying a dollar to dig it up tomorrow…. crazy, huh??!!
My mom used to make us black-eyed peas, but so far my husband and I have managed to make falling asleep before midnight our "tradition."
Congratulations on the publications!
