O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree!

My husband and I had only been married six months when we celebrated our first Christmas together.  I wanted it to be special, with decorations and all!

It was never an issue of whether we would have a live tree or artificial tree.  I was all about the artificial tree because I didn’t want to have to worry about the drama that comes with live trees (watering, shedding, etc.)

Just any artificial tree wouldn’t do. I had to have the PERFECT artificial tree.  I didn’t want a skinny tree, or one with a lot of gaps. I had to have one that was full and tall.  One that was beautiful with lots of potential.

I finally found the perfect tree after dragging my husband to no less than 10 stores.  It was a 7.5 foot tree and it was reasonably priced.  My husband was so glad that I finally found a tree.  It could have been a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree for all he cared.  He was getting tired of going all over the region looking for a tree.

I took some friends of mine with me to get decorations for the tree. We decided to do red and gold decorations on the tree, mainly because that was the colors of our living room at the time.  We also decided on clear lights to go on the tree.

My friends and I turned the Christmas tree decorating into a party.  We had Christmas music going, with cookies baking in the oven.  It was so much fun!  Our husbands hung out together and we had the house to ourselves to have a blast!  One of my friends bought me and my husband an ornament that said, “Our First Christmas.”  It was beautiful!

Christmas Tree decorating from house to house turned out to be a yearly tradition, until PCS moves separated us all, one at a time.  I really miss those ladies.  We still keep in touch, especially around this time of year.
Our new tradition has been for my husband to get the decorations out of storage.  I put the tree up and the decorations.  My husband takes it all down and puts it back in storage.  My husband has mad packing skills and every year, I find our ornaments, christmas lights, and nativity sets in excellent condition.  We add new ornaments and decorations each year.

What are your Christmas Tree traditions?
