Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of

I never was a big football fan. I just watched it whenever everyone else did. I enjoyed seeing people get so passionate about their favorite teams.

In high school, I was in Marching Band, so I pretty much knew the basics of football…enough to know what a touchdown is and a field goal.

When my husband deployed last fall, I sometimes found myself bored and lonely. I started flipping channels and often, a football game would be on TV. I started watching it because I heard about the New Orleans Saints being undefeated.

I love to root for the underdog and if they weren’t underdogs, I don’t know what an underdog is!

Overcoming Hurricane Katrina, a football team that has never been to the Super Bowl, need I say more? Who wouldn’t get behind them in support in their run to the Super Bowl?

The Saints eventually suffered their first loss and struggled a couple of games after that, but they got their rhythm back. They kept fighting and didn’t give up, making it all the way to their first ever Super Bowl. But even then, no one expected them to succeed.

The odds were stacked up against them. The Colts had experience on their side. On the day of the Super Bowl, only one commentator out of four predicted the Saints to win, and that person predicted them to win only by a small margin. As a matter of fact, the other commentators laughed at the commentator that was rooting for the Saints.

I’m sure you know the outcome of the game by now. The Saints overcame a 10 point deficit in the first quarter and beat the Colts, 31-17. The quarterback of the Saints, Drew Brees said, “We believed in ourselves. God is Great. It was all meant to be. It’s all destiny.”

Whatever your dream is, reach for it. For all things are possible for those who believe. Never give up.

The Saints’s story is one that dreams are made of. What are your dreams? What are you doing to make them a reality today?
