Weathering the Storms of Life

by Tonya on May 17, 2010

I had such good intentions last week. There were a million things written on my to do list and I had every intention of getting them all done.

However, it didn’t happen due to circumstances beyond my control.

I spent most of last week and even some of this week dodging thunderstorms, hail, tornadoes, and power outages. I didn’t check off any of the things on my list, but I did get to do some things for the first time.

Like…

  • Getting into an underground storm shelter with seven people and two dogs.
  • Surviving a 20-hour power outage and playing cards with my husband by candlelight.
  • Seeing BASEBALL sized hail. Don’t believe me? See for yourself…

There were a lot of people that had catastrophic damage to their homes and vehicles. My car was parked next to a friend’s car in a driveway. Her car had cracks all over the windshield, numerous dents and dings, and damage to both doors. My car looked like it barely got hit…just a few dings that are barely noticeable. Now remember, this is all with the baseball sized hail pictured above!

My only worry is part of a fence that fell down, which isn’t a big deal, when considering that some people don’t have a home to go to or a car to drive.

We are truly blessed and I’d rather walk in the blessings of God than stress about a completed to do list. Why should I worry and stress about things I can’t change or control?

When life throws a curve ball, I’m just going to go with the flow.

We really start to see how little control we have… it's good! Helps us put more faith in God. Thanks for your post.

P.S.
I've never seen hail like that before!

Amen to that. Wow I cant imagine what those moments must have been like in the shelter. I hope that is it for tornadoes in your area this year. Stopping by from UBP http://postpartumillness.com/
