Products for Good is sponsoring a giveaway for my blog readers! They’re giving a single Iraqi coin to the winner.
Here’s a little history about the Iraqi coins. During Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, coalition forces were sent to secure the banks in Basra, Iraq. Upon securing the area, they found a collection of Iraqi coins that were decommissioned by Saddam Hussein when the Gulf War ended. The coins had no monetary value, but the coalition troops wanted the coins to be used for something good. They decided to auction the coins and use the proceeds to rebuild an orphanage in Basra that was destroyed during Saddam Hussein’s reign.
The entire collection of coins was purchased by Products for Good in 2004. The intent of the company is to use these coins for good. Products for Good gives 20% of all proceeds before business expenses to charities that serve military families. The products are assembled by mentally and physically challenged adults at a vocational facility in North Carolina.

This would make a great addition to the other military memorabilia that I already have started collecting from my husband.
I enjoy reading your blog, keep up the good work.
Would love to add this to my hubby’s collection!
I think I’ve seen similar coins back when I was deployed. At best I’m a novice coin collector, if there the same as this one I’m not sure. I was deployed from the end or 04 through 2005. I found a a few through my travels and when I came home from my deployment I gave some to kids at the airport with thank the troops signs and such. I was nice to give back a bit and see how excited they were over a couple iraqi coins.
