A huge crowd gathered at the White House gates after the news got out, cheering and waving American flags, singing the National Anthem. Another crowd gathered at Ground Zero where the worst terrorist attack on American soil took place.
Facebook and Twitter was abuzz with all kinds of commentary. Some people were happy, others made jokes, some were in a somber mood, and others were fearful.
In light of this breaking news, it’s important that we remain prayerful. The death of Osama Bin Laden has so many implications.
While Osama Bin Laden was considered the leader of Al-Qaeda, his death doesn’t mean the end of terrorism. He probably had contingency plans in place in case this happened. There are others who will want to avenge his death and retaliate. Retaliation attacks can occur on U.S. soil or on our troops abroad. But not only that…think about Christians living in the Middle East, U.S. Embassies, Missionaries, and Americans all over the world!
President Obama made it clear in his speech that we aren’t at war with Islam, but do you think that terrorists will take it that way? Even now, there is a warning from the U.S. State Department about “enhanced potential for Anti-American violence.”
I’m thankful that those who lost loved ones on 9/11 have received some level of closure with Osama Bin Laden’s death. However, I can’t help but be concerned about the aftermath of this world news. It’s not a good feeling to have your husband deployed abroad while this is happening. All I can do is go to God in prayer for our country, for our troops, and even for our enemies because they need prayer as well.
What are your thoughts on this?

My husband and I were talking about this tonight while we waited for President Obama to make his announcement. The commentators on CNN were going back and forth saying how excited the troops would be and that this would “boost” their morale. My husband just got back from Afghanistan in October of last year and he chuckled at them… saying to me that the only thing to boost the morale of troops is getting the notice you can come back home. Nobody wants to be over there fighting this war. I hope that the troops can be safe as I fear whatever backlash and retaliation may occur. My prayers are with your husband and entire family as you get through the rest of your deployment.
I feel the same. It is a big deal that the American troops have killed him. But I too worry about what may now be in store for us and especially for our troops over seas. I have a neighbor about to deploy in a few weeks and we all have been concerned but now we are worried even more. This does not mean this war on terrorists is over.
Again I pray your husband will come home safe! As I pray all our troops will.
I pray God will protect them and hold the hands of those He calls home!
May God Bless all our troops, thier families and the American people.

I’m right there with you. I saw all the “partying” outside the White House and in NYC last night, and while I understand the relief/closure that comes with this news, I wanted to shake each of them and shout, “But do you know what this means!?” *sigh* I’m glad justice was brought, but not even God takes pleasure in the death of the wicked (vs from Eziekel, I think).

I fully agree with you. I have mixed emotions about this. I believe we will receive some form of ‘payback’ from those who follow this man. I have friends who have family in the military. I wonder how those families view this news. We have to pray and trust God for all that lay ahead of us.

I completely agree with what you said – A bad man was killed – yeah – but evil does still exist – revenge is something that may happen – we need to be prepared and pray for the men and women who at this moment are protecting our great nation.
